The up coming year...

I am very relieved to say that I did get into my first uni preference... if only by a whisker.

Come 2009 I shall be a student at Macquarie University studying a B Ancient History (hons), which I look forward to beyond measure.

But what of 2008? What excitement and thrills do I have planned for my gap year?

Unfortunately I have to admit that the majority of my time shall be spent working, travelling every day to Macquarie shall not be cheap and as such I have decided a car is a necessary purchase.

I'm afraid to admit finding a job has actually been rather hard, I have just completed my RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) and my RCG (Responsible Conduct of Gaming) but nearly every job I find in the hospitality industry requires experience which I just don't have.

I am sure I shall manage to find employment soon, if for no other reason then my mother gently put it, 'either you have a job or are a full time students by the 1st of March or you're outta here'.

I suddenly found myself with a renewed energy (or desperation) and have stepped up the search.

Work, however, is not the only thing that shall occupy my time... I plan to write. I am currently working on a manuscript for a fantasy story that I can't seem to stay away from... much to the annoyance of my family I have moved my rather large E-mac computer out onto the coffee table so that I may watch TV and write at the same time.

Once this manuscript is finished I will edit and then try to find an agent... after visiting publishers websites it has become apparent that many will not even look at an unrepresented manuscript... Ouch. The writing industry has gone Hollywood on us.

Due to timing problems I have not yet received my Christmas present of oil paint from my parents but I am definitely looking forward to trying out an art form as classic as that... especially considering I have not before used it

I am also planning to extend one of my HSC artworks. I had created a criticism of the literary cannon by taking extracts from famous works of literature such as Hamlet and making them comics. I plan to extend this and finish Hamlet completely in comic form... this shall certainly take a while.

I'm also hoping to write a historical fiction based on the life of Agrippina the Younger... After studying her for both History and DT as well as tutoring a large portion of my class and some of my younger friends still... I feel I should put the knowledge to good use.

Basically I do not believe I have enough time in the year to actually complete all I want to do... but I definitely will be able to get a head start on it.
